FUSION EXTENSION CARE BASICS (Your Hair Must Be At Least Three Inches Long For Strand By Strand Methods) HOME MAINTENANCE OK, you have invested in quality extensions and you want to take care of them. Caring for extensions are a bit different from caring for your own hair. Here are a few tips that may help you achieve your goal. Do not wash your hair for 48 hrs. (2 days) of getting the strand by strand techniques. If you are a swimmer wet your hair before entering any pool or spa with chemicals in the water. After that you may shampoo your hair once(recommended) or twice a week using a non-alcohol or non-alkaline shampoo. Brush each row of extension hair from the ends to the scalp before & after shampooing. You may also shampoo once every two weeks minimum using cool to warm water never extremely hot water. Condition the ends as well and always use a shower, not a sink. Always wash with your head slightly tilted back. Place shampoo in the palm of your hand and stroke the strands from scalp to ends DO NOT SHAMPOO THE EXTENSION HAIR IN CIRCULAR MOTIONS THIS WILL CAUSE THE HAIR TO TANGLE. Your goal is to clean your scalp rather than your hair, because your scalp produces oils that attract dirt. Squeeze excess water and shampoo from your hair. Stroke downward with conditioner in the palm of your hand DO NOT PUT CONDITIONER ON ATTACHMENTS. You may brush through extensions to get tangles out holding the palm of your hand at the base of your scalp to secure the extension attachments from the hair ends to the scalp. Rinse throughly with cooler water. Pat your hair dry or squeeze. (do not rub) this will cause hair to tangle. Add a leave-in conditioner. You may also make a detangler with your favorite conditioner, one part water one part conditioner. Mix in a spray bottle and apply to hair. You may also choose to do this every night to keep your extensions moisturized and detangled while sleeping. Apply styling products and style your hair. Avoid getting products that contain oils or lubricants close to the attachment. Oils & lubricants tend to soften fusion, shrinkies & bonding attachments and will eventually loosen the extension, and you will loose the attachment. You may loose about 1-2 strands a week from strand by strand methods and your extension hair may shed like your natural hair, make sure to schedule your maintenance appointments every 6-8 weeks on a regular basis. PLEASE NO DEEP SCALP- CONDITIONING PRODUCTS AND NO OILY HAIR CARE PRODUCTS, NO EXCEPTIONS. DO NOT BLOW DRY YOUR HAIR WITH HIGH HEAT AT THE ROOTS. DO NOT LET CONDITIONER SET ON THE ROOTS FOR MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES. ABSOLUTELY NO OVERNIGHT CONDITIONING TREATMENTS. NO LONG HOURS IN A SAUNA OR HOT TUB WITH THE FUSION METHODS THE STEAM HEAT MAY HARM THE ATTACHMENTS. You may blow dry your extensions on a low heat setting. Do not blow dry your hair excessively with high heat at the roots(air drying works best for extensions). Do not let hair conditioner set on the roots for more than five minutes. Use products that are silicone based, no balsam, products with sulphur, henna, alcohol or alkaline. Never go to bed with wet hair. Your hair will mat and tangle. Put your hair in a loose braid or in a few scrunchies at night before you go to bed to minimize tangles. Satin pillowcases are great, better than cotton. You must take care of the extensions as well as your hair underneath brushing always from the ends to the scalp with a nylon bristle, boar or loop brush. Brushing from root to ends helps to minimize your natural hair from tangles. STYLING YOUR EXTENSIONS Use a boar, nylon or loop bristle brush with soft to medium bristles. They do not get caught on the extension attachment. No Hard Bristles. YOU MUST brush your hair at least two times a day (or more) from the ends continuing to the scalp, or hair WILL tangle. Air dry your hair(80% dry) after every wet treatment(air drying or a cool hair dryer is recommended) blow dry with cool or warm air never extremely hot. Blow dry from ends to roots from the bottom to the top in small sections to prolong the life of your extensions. Avoid touching the point of attachment with hot styling tools or heat. Use med heat setting, never to hot this may damage extension hair. Always brush from the roots to ends. Brush with one hand firmly on your head, supporting the extension attachments brushing from the ends to the scalp, and don't forget to brush out the nape. No headbands with plastic or metal teeth. Soft headbands, ponytails, clips and braids are O.K. Just be aware that too much tension will loosen your extensions sooner. Just like your own hair, extension hair may be damaged with extreme heat or irresponsible care! MAINTENANCE Appointments should be scheduled a maximum of 6-8 weeks for proper care of your extension hair and the health of your natural hair. Your personal maintenance program will depend on your physical activities , how fast your hair grows, and the way that you care for your hair. Make sure that you are brushing from the ends to the scalp on a daily basis! (never leave any extensions in your hair more that 3-4 months or your hair will begin to lock and mat) REMOVAL Three to five days before removal if you know when your appointment will be scheduled you may start using heavier oils or deep conditioners on the attachments. This will quicken the removal process. Brush from the ends to the scalp to make sure all tangles are out before your removal appointment. You can flat iron, curl, crimp, and set & style anyway that you choose! Enjoy Your Hair!! YOUR WEAVE, ANY WEAVE, KEEPING IT REAL! Any woman wearing a weave wants it to look natural and gorgeous. Here are a few tips that keep your hair glowing! TEXTURE MATCH The last question anyone should ask is, "where did you get your weave done?" Select a color that matches your hair texture. Make sure it's not to straight or shiny. Extension hair that has more texture will have more body when it is flat-ironed or curled. A GOOD BASE Bumps and lumps are a dead give away of a bad weave. Flat, smooth and small braids make the best foundation. The thinner the weft, the better. Make sure that your stylist isn't braiding you hair to tight, this may cause hair breakage at the scalp and may cause permanent hair loss. LESS IS THE BEST Too much hair is a common mistake. This screams "weave!" it is also unhealthy. Too much weight of the extension hair stresses your hair out and may cause hair damage to the hair follicle and, over time, traction baldness. 6 - 10 ounces is more than enough. (One bag is usually 4 ounces) CHOOSING THE BEST COLOR With extension hair, you can have color without stressing out your natural hair. SMOOTH FINISHES Leaving out your own hair to create a part will always makes a natural finish. FLATTER YOU No matter what the fashion is always choose a style that flatters your face. What looks good on someone else may not look good on you. The shape of your head, face and hairline should be considered when choosing a style. KEEPING IT LOOKING GOOD AND FRESH Wash and condition your hair every week or every other week(for sew-ins). A moisturizing and detangling shampoo and conditioner will keep your weave soft and flowing. Never keep a weave in for more that 3-4 months, or your hair will begin to lock and mat, thus comprising the state of your natural hair. Do not use hair oil on the base of a bonded track. Oil(baby oil) the base of bonded tracks only the night before removal, this will soften the bond and it will make it easy to remove.
